This post might seem a little odd to some. As many of you know the topic of foot washing comes in in the bible on several occasions. The woman washing Jesus’ feet with her tears, drying them with her hair and then using perfume (Luke 7:38), Jesus washes his disciples feet (John 13:3-20). There are many other examples, but those are two of the most common. It was common for the household to provide the water and basin for guests to wash their feet, but it was an act of humility and service to wash the feet of someone else. So there is a little bit of back story, I recommend reading more about feet washing during biblical times, it is truly interesting. However, my point of this post is not to dive deep into biblical theology, I am actually writing this post to compliment my husband.
When I am pregnant, my ob likes to call me a “puffer”, I swell… A LOT! Some people think I am exaggerating , until they see the photos. Even my doctor exclaimed, “if I hadn’t seen your ankles with my own eyes, I would have thought you photo-shopped those pictures”, if that gives you an idea of just how bad they were. At this point I could barely even wear flip flops due to the swelling, my feet ached from the extra weight and the swelling, and I was so largely pregnant, bending properly to wash and rub my feet was not always possible. My husband, Ryan, wanting to do anything in his power to give me some relief and comfort would get down on his knees and wash the dirt from my feet. Then he would have Novella get the lotion and the two of them would sit at my feet and rub and massage my feet. If this is not an act of a humble heart and attitude of service, I don’t know what is. At the time, I was just so grateful for the affection and foot rub I never truly realized the significance as to what he was doing. I’m not sure he did either.
With that being said, Ryan I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for going above and beyond. I am thankful for the heart that Christ gave you. Your heart of a humble attitude, generosity, kindness, selflessness, and servitude. You truly are a remarkable man, and God knew just what he was doing when he placed my hands, my heart, and my trust in you to be my husband. I love you!
