So, we bought our house…we moved a piece of furniture that was left behind in the guest bathroom, and yup… unfinished wall space. We haven’t been sure about how to go about finishing it yet, so we left the piece of furniture there for the time being. However, knowing that we will likely be moving in 2 years; we are diligently working on the house to make it better and fixing up what needs to be fixed up. Case in point why our blog lately has been filled with our DIY home projects.
So we found the tile used in the bathroom in our storage space, unfortunately there wasn’t enough to finish the project fully, and the tile used has since been discontinued and unavailable for purchase. So back to the drawing board. With the suggestion from my mom (thanks mom!) We decided to permanently affix a cabinet or something to the space. We went to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore again with our measurements and found the perfect sized bathroom cabinet in good shape for $30, and a countertop for $5. Ryan dropped the girls and me off at home, took out the carseats and he went and picked up our next project.
First, this is what the wall looked like behind the original piece that was covering the unfinished space. (The shelving drawer piece has since made its way upstairs to the girls room, and looks fantastic!!)
Here is what we were able to finish as far as the tile goes. This was the part I was able to help do, I enjoyed piecing all the small leftover strip together. It was like a puzzle or tetris sort of. Haha
While I worked on finishing the wall, Ryan worked on getting the cabinet all prepped and ready for installation.
After the wall was finished, and the trim was removed, the flooring fixed to help incorporate the new cabinet it was ready to install.

Apparently it is Aila and Novella approved!
The most tedious aspect of this project was actually cutting and installing the counter top and back splash, but my handyman husband did a fabulous job!

Now we are just waiting for some heavy duty D-Rings to attach to the new to us mirror from ReStore so we can put that up over the sink. I plan to paint the cabinets at some point so they will match better and bring everything together, and I want to paint the bathroom as well. Little by little it is all coming together. Figuring out how to fix and finish the unfinished wall was important and complete. Thank you Ryan for all of your hard work and dedication!
