Fall Visit from Oklahoma

Earlier this month my (Micah) parents came up for a fall visit from Oklahoma. It ended up being a truly lovely week in the mid 60’s most of their visit (so not a total temperature shock for them). However, they were here for peak colors for the leaves changing. It was absolutely LOVELY! Although they mostly came just to see and spend time with their granddaughters, we planned some fun and had a wonderful time with them.

During the summer the Frazier Frontier went cherry picking a couple of times, and had plenty left for yummy fun! While the family was here this trip we made it a point to go get some pumpkins and other fun natural decor for our front deck. We also got to go apple picking for the first time! What a fun experience it was! After we had picked our apples and were walking back from the orchard to go weigh and pay, Novella really wanted to be carried. my favorite thing she said that day was, “I can’t walk, my knees are broke”, she still had to walk though because we all had our hands full of bags of apples, and I was wearing Aveline, so walking was a must. When we got back in the car, “my knees okay now, they aren’t broke anymore”. Lol the things that little children come up with, so fun, sweet, and memorable.

We decided to begin attempting to make a dent in the apples and made an apple pie crumble (which wasn’t all that great), and a cherry pie. Novella and Gran Jan did most of the work, while I did most of the dishes and clean up. It was such a fun way to spend our afternoon that day, and Novella loves to help in the kitchen (mostly she likes to taste EVERYTHING!! We are raising her up to help care for and learn the ways of homemaking, learning skills of baking and cooking. She has a couple of her own aprons, and a step stool that once was mine (because I am short) that has become her stool that she gets out to help in the kitchen. She pretends to help read recipes, and loves to help stir, roll, pat, mix…any job we offer her. One of my favorite things that happened that day with her was, she was helping my mom roll out the pie crust with the rolling pin, my mom said, “okay let’s turn it around and do it the other way now”, instead of rotating the dough the other direction, she proceeded to rotate the rolling pin, switching the handles from one hand to the other. Well, she did do it the other way I guess. Amazing the things you get to teach that you always considered “common sense”. Common sense still has to be learned.

The week went by in a blur, as their visits usually do, we fill our days with fun activities, we forget to take photos sometimes because we are so wrapped up in the moments. Having Opa and Gran Jan come visit is always a special treat, we eat lots of good (sometimes not so great food), we play games, shop, read LOTS of books, tickle, cuddle, play, laugh, and so much more. Thank you mom and dad for coming and making more memories with us and the girls. We look forward to your next visit. Grandmother, we missed you this time!
