Is My Joy Unstoppable?

Recently our church has beeen going through a series called JOY UNSTOPPABLE I have always known about Joy and the difference between Joy and happiness. Joy comes from Christ, happiness does not. A few weeks ago at church one of the sermons hit me like a 2×4. Our pastor said, “Joy tied to circumstances will fail, joy anchored to Christ will be ever-lasting”. I began to think about the rut I had been in lately. Had I been taking the wrong approach, had I been looking at things with the wrong perspective.

This past year has been severely challenging for us. We are new to the special needs world, and it has definitely had it’s own set of challenges, and I have questioned God a lot in the past year; why is Aveline going through this, why us God, why do any children or any family have go go through any of this? But maybe, just maybe the question should be, how do you want to use us and this situation for your glory?

I realized after that sermon a few weeks ago, that our situation is unique, and the people we have the opportunity encounter are going through rough stuff and often burdened with similar questions for their children and families. We have had a chance to meet countless families through the Ronald McDonald House and through our challenging situation with Aveline that we may never would have met otherwise. So I began to ask God to move and use us.

Philippians 2:5 states, “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus” (ESV) I also like how the NLT says it, “You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.” As a Christian our minds are meant to be transformed by Christ, the way we think and perceive things is meant to be different than someone who does not know Christ, we are transformed through him.

My friend Stacy recently wrote a blog about God being enough. To piggyback on her thoughts, I think this is just what Paul is talking about in Phillipians, whether we are free or imprisoned we must choose to rejoice, spread the good news to whoever God may allow you to cross paths with. No matter your circumstances find Joy in knowing and believing, and in having that relationship with him. Ask God to disrupt your life so that you can truly come out of complacency, lean on him and truly KNOW that HE IS ENOUGH!
