Sorry for the delay in recent blog posts. This past week my parents and grandmother came to Wisconsin to visit and love on little Novella. They were able to come and stay an entire week, they left early this morning and the house is quiet again. Ryan went back in to work for the weekend, so it is just Novella and myself (oh and of course the ferret, dog, and three chickens) A household full of gals and one guy. Boy, Ryan sure is blessed with an excess of estrogen under his roof!
Mom, Dad and Grandmother arrived Friday afternoon last week. It was so special for them to come and visit, as they have not seen Novella since she was three weeks old. My how much she has changed over the past few months! She interacts, and giggles and play. They kept telling Ryan and I what a unique baby she is. When she awakens she doesn’t stretch, yawn, or cry; she is simply awake. She will sit quietly and look around with her big beautiful eyes, taking in everything around her. We spent time around the house relaxing, did some shopping at the local stores in town, ate lots of good food (and way to much of it!), we cooked, we baked, we went for a drive up the peninsula to see the amazing leaves changing colors. It was certainly a FULL week! Although the weather was chillier than expected, the sun was still out and shining.
As I sit writing this, I am looking at my sweet napping daughter (who has been extra needy today because she was spoiled all week by her grandparents), I am texting my mother about how their drive is going, I am booking Usborne Book parties for my business, and listening to the stillness of our home surrounding me. Quiet is nice. Visitors are always a pleasant welcome, I wish they could have stayed longer, and I look forward to Ryan’s parents coming for a visit soon as well (hopefully!). But when all of the excitement has settled, and the emotion of the reality that they are gone but will be back as soon as they are able, has faded… the quiet is welcoming.
Just the click clack of the keys typing, the traffic driving by periodically in front of our house, the jingle of the dogs collar as she shifts positions and catches up on her rest after an exciting week, and the sweet snores of Novella. The quiet isn’t so bad, the quiet isn’t scary, the quiet is inviting.
We look forward to more visits with family as they are able to come, and visits with friends when they want to play. But for now, the quiet is calling our names.
